Weekly meal prep · London

Japanese meal prep, cooked in your London kitchen.

oishee is a meal prep service in London where the cooking happens at your counter. A Japanese chef comes to your home, batch cooks two or three dishes into eight to twelve portions, leaves them labelled in your fridge and washes up before they go.

A visit takes three or four hours and costs £100 to £170, travel included. That is between £9.58 and £18.13 a portion, depending on how many dishes you pick and who buys the ingredients.

A week of food, in a single visit

What you get, and what you don't have to do.

Most meal prep means you doing it: a Sunday afternoon, six containers and a sink full of pans. This is the same result without any of that. A chef who grew up cooking Japanese food handles the list, the shopping if you want them to, the prep, the cooking and the washing up, and leaves the week portioned and labelled in your fridge.

01

8 to 12 portions in one go

Two or three dishes, batch cooked and portioned into four servings each. About a week of lunches or dinners for one, or four days of dinners for two.

02

Cooked in your own kitchen

Your hob, your pans, your containers. Nothing arrives reheated from a central kitchen, unless you would rather we cooked at ours and delivered.

03

It keeps, and it freezes

Most dishes hold three to four days in the fridge and freeze well, so a single visit stretches further than a week if you want it to.

04

Real Japanese home cooking

Regional home dishes rather than restaurant plates, cooked by chefs who grew up making them.

What a week actually looks like

Every dish is cooked in four portions, so two dishes is eight and three is twelve.

Two dishes

8 portions

  • Four portions of each dish, so you are not eating the same thing twice a day
  • Lunch and dinner Monday to Thursday for one person
  • Or dinner Monday to Thursday for two
  • About three hours in your kitchen

Three dishes

12 portions

  • Four portions of each, and the cheapest way we do it per portion
  • Lunch and dinner most of the week for one person
  • Or dinner most of the week for two
  • About four hours in your kitchen

Most dishes keep three to four days in the fridge. Miso glazed salmon is best inside two to three because it is fish. If you are prepping for longer than that, freeze half on the day: Japanese curry and gyudon come back particularly well. Anything fried is better reheated in a hot dry pan or an air fryer than a microwave, which steams the panko. Every dish page says how that one keeps and reheats.

What meal prep costs

The only thing that changes the price is who buys the ingredients.

What actually happens on the day

Four steps, start to finish. The longer version.

Step one

Pick your dishes

Two or three from the menu, a date and a start time. You also choose who buys the ingredients, which is the only thing that changes the price.

Step two

Get containers ready

Four to six decent-sized containers covers a full visit. It is the only thing we ask you to sort beforehand, and not at all if we are delivering.

Step three

The chef batch cooks

Three or four hours working through the dishes, portioning everything out and washing up. You let them in and get on with your day.

Step four

Eat through the week

Fridge for the next few days, freezer for the rest. No shopping, no cooking, no deciding, no washing up.

How it compares

The four other ways Londoners solve the same problem.

Option Who cooks Your effort What you get What you give up
oishee meal prep A Japanese chef, in your kitchen None. They shop, cook, portion and wash up 8 to 12 portions a visit Having someone in your kitchen for a few hours
Meal prep delivery boxes A central kitchen, days earlier None, but you are on a subscription Usually sold per meal, per week Choice, and food cooked the same day
Meal kit boxes You, from a recipe card Around half an hour of cooking per meal One meal per kit The whole point of meal prep, which is not cooking
Takeaway A restaurant kitchen Ordering and waiting One meal Portion control, and the price adds up fast
Supermarket ready meals A factory, weeks earlier Reheating One meal Almost everything

The honest summary: a delivery box is cheaper per meal and needs nothing from you, and if that suits you it is a good answer. We are for people who want food cooked fresh in their own kitchen, in portions that last, by someone who knows the cuisine.

Who cooks it

You are letting someone into your home, so this part is not left loose.

Every oishee chef is Japanese and learned these dishes in a family kitchen rather than a restaurant one, in the part of Japan they grew up in. If you want the chef side of this rather than the food side, read about hiring a Japanese private chef in London, or meet the chefs cooking for us now.

What people say after a visit

Two of the notes we have had back.

It was excellent. Maiko was a brilliant and skilled home cook. The food is delicious and the kitchen was left very clean and tidy afterwards. I would love to re-use the service.
Usman, Finsbury ParkCooked by Maiko
Ayako was excellent and we really enjoyed the experience! The meals were so tasty and special. We will definitely look to use this service again and highly recommend it to others.

Meal prep, explained

Between 8 and 12, in four-portion batches. Two dishes gives you eight portions, three dishes gives you twelve. That is normally a week of lunches or dinners for one person, or four to six dinners for two.
An oishee visit is £100 to £170 depending on how many dishes you choose and who buys the ingredients, and that includes the chef's time, their travel and a kitchen left clean. Per portion it works out between £9.58 and £18.13. The lower figures are the options where you buy the fresh ingredients yourself, so the food is on top.
Most dishes keep three to four days in the fridge. Miso glazed salmon is best within two to three days because it is fish. Most of the menu freezes well, Japanese curry and gyudon particularly, so a single visit can cover more than a week if you freeze half of it on the day.
Depends on the dish. Curry, gyudon, teriyaki and mapo tofu are happy in a pan or a microwave. Anything fried, meaning tonkatsu and chicken katsu, should go in a hot dry pan or an air fryer instead, because a microwave steams the panko and leaves it soft. Each dish page says which.
If a chef is coming to your kitchen, yes. Four to six decent-sized containers ready before they arrive and they will portion everything into them. On the delivery option you need nothing, because the containers are included.
Yes. If you would rather not have a chef in your home, we cook everything in our own kitchen and deliver the same day. We source the ingredients for that option and we provide the containers, so it is £145 for two dishes and £170 for three.
It depends which option you pick and whether you count the food. On the you-shop option the chef costs £9.58 a portion for twelve portions and you buy the ingredients on top. On fully hands-off, where we buy everything, it is £13.75 a portion all in. What you are really paying for is food cooked in your kitchen that day rather than a box cooked somewhere else days ago.
Both. Book a single visit, or buy a pack of 4 visits at 5% off or 8 at 10% off and book each one when it suits you, weekly if you like, within 6 months. With a pack we send the same chef wherever we can.
Tell us when you book and we will adapt where we can. Two of the eight dishes are vegetarian, and our agedashi tofu uses kombu dashi rather than the bonito-based dashi most restaurants use, so it genuinely is. Most dishes contain soya and gluten from soy sauce, and food is prepared in your kitchen, which may handle other allergens, so we cannot guarantee a dish is free from traces.
Most of London, from Walthamstow to Wimbledon and Ealing to Greenwich, and travel is included wherever we go. Put your postcode into the booking form and it will tell you in one click.
