About

A Japanese chef in your kitchen.

oishee is a Japanese private chef and meal prep service in London. A chef who grew up cooking this food comes to your home, batch cooks the dishes you picked, portions them into your fridge and leaves the kitchen the way they found it. One visit, a week of real food.

It is deliberately not a dinner party and not a restaurant. What you get is the cooking a Japanese household actually does on a weeknight, made at your counter, in quantities that last.

Our story

London has no shortage of Japanese restaurants. What it is short of is the food Japanese families actually eat at home on a Tuesday night: a pot of curry, gyudon over rice, salmon glazed with miso. It is simple, filling, balanced cooking, and it is almost impossible to buy.

oishee started to close that gap. Rather than open another restaurant, we bring the cook to you. Each of our chefs grew up with these dishes in Japan, in Kyushu, Okinawa and Tokyo, and learned them in a family kitchen rather than a professional one. They come to your home, cook a batch of the dishes you choose and leave your fridge full for the week.

We keep it deliberately small: a short menu of eight dishes we know inside out, chefs who have cooked every one of them for us before they cook for you, and prices that include travel wherever you are in London. If you are not sure whether it is for you, message us on WhatsApp and a real person will reply.

What a visit is

And, just as usefully, what it isn't.

Meal prep, not a dinner party

Your chef spends the visit batch cooking eight to twelve portions and leaving them labelled in your fridge for the week ahead, rather than plating a single meal. Two dishes takes about three hours, three dishes about four. See how a visit runs.

Home cooking, not restaurant cooking

The menu is eight dishes Japanese families eat on an ordinary weeknight: teriyaki, tonkatsu, katsu, agedashi tofu, curry, miso glazed salmon, gyudon and a vegetarian mapo tofu. Each one has its own page with calories, protein, allergens and how it reheats. Read the menu.

Your kitchen, your equipment

Chefs cook with the pots and pans you already own, and everything is washed up before they leave. You choose who buys the ingredients, which is the only thing that changes the price: you shop, we bring the Japanese pantry and you get the fresh, or we source everything. Compare the options.

Who cooks

You are letting someone into your home, so this part is not left loose.

What people say after a visit

It was excellent. Maiko was a brilliant and skilled home cook. The food is delicious and the kitchen was left very clean and tidy afterwards. I would love to re-use the service.

Travel is included wherever we go, so an address in Walthamstow costs the same as one in Chelsea.
